Coconut Dal Tadka Recipe - Creamy Coconut Daal Curry - Lentils in Coconut Milk In this video, we show you a delicious Coconut Dad Tadka Recipe which we highly recommend you try. This is a creamy coconut daal (lentil) curry recipe which we have made using coconut milk. Coconut is a popular ingredient in East African Swahili cooking and my parents grew up having many delicious cooked in coconut milk in Tanzania and Kenya. Coconut daal is also popular in some regions of India including Kerela. This coconut dal tadka recipe is incredibly delicious and can be served with rice or roti. To make the coconut daal recipe, you will need: 1/2 cup washed masoor daal and 1/2 cup washed moong daal (or lentils of your choice) hot water 2 tbs chopped onions 2 garlic cloves halved 1 chopped green chili 1/2 tsp Kashmiri chili powder 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp paprika 1/4 tsp carom seeds (ajwain) 1 tsp salt (or to taste) 1 tsp coriander powder 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing) 1/4 tsp black pepper powder 1 bay leaf 1 cup coconut milk optional: 1-2 kokum pieces (for the tangy flavour) To prepare the Tadka: 2 tbs oil (we used rapeseed oil) 1/2 tsp mustard seeds 1/2 cumin seeds 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds 2 garlic cloves 1 tbs curry leaves 2 small dried chilies 1 tbs tomato puree Garnishing: 1/2 tsp cumin powder chopped green chilies fresh coriander lemon juice Kashmiri chili powder We served the Coconut Dal Tadka with coconut rice and our crispy fish pakoras.
