Un gibernard de première classe
March 11, 1977 Mr. Albert Rigondaud, official army painter, creates soldier figurines that faithfully reproduce military costumes. He presents different types of soldiers, which he paints according to the historical period to which they refer. He is passionate about history and wants to contribute something to the generations that will follow him. He explains why he uses mass-produced plastic soldiers in preference to lead figurines, which are very difficult to work with, and presents his personal collection (Louis XV soldiers, Swiss Guards, Louis XVI soldiers, etc.) and the Schmidt collection. He describes his research work in the archives to identify the soldiers. He reproduces on documentary plates the details of the military uniforms he has managed to track down. He explains how he earned the title of "gibernard de première classe" (a gibernard being a "uniformologist," i.e., a military uniform enthusiast) and the origin of the term.
