Restoration of a WW1 1918 Smith & Wesson revolver, (with test firing), #restoration

#restoration #gunrestoration Restoration of Smith & Wesson model 1917 from the first world war. Smith & Wesson was contracted to produce 163,476 revolvers from 1917-1919. During the same time period Colt was also contracted to produce their own version of the model 1917. Colt produced 154,802 revolvers in the same years. Both Gun manufacturers were producing these revolvers to meet the demand that the Model 1911 semi-auto pistol could not keep up with. There were three different manufacturers of the 1911 pistol totaling 650,000 putting total units close to 1 million sidearms. In comparison to the sidearms over 4 million Americans served in the first world war. The model 1917's were invented to use half moon clips to take the .45 acp cartridge that the 1911 was already using. This made it easier to equip ammo during the war. After the war in 1920 .45 auto rim was invented to be used in the revolvers without a moon clip. Hopefully you enjoyed the video and learned a little about firearm history. As always thanks for watching and consider subscribing.
