Abandoned Scottish Mansion Left To Decay - Custom House Dundee

#urbex #urbanexploration #abandonedmansion Today we visit a city on the east coast of Scotland, to find a 3 storey Georgian mansion built in 1842. This building was one of the largest port authority headquarters in the country, it is a reminder of the importance of the city as a sea-port in the 19th century and the wealth of the trade passing though the harbour. Its purpose was for the collection of harbour dues and customs levies, but some years down the line, although the port is very much still alive, the system has been modernised, leading to custom house eventually closing its doors in 2008. The interior transports you back to the 1940s, turn style doors welcome you into wood panelled rooms and velvet hallways lead you to large tiled vaults. Their personal touch was incorporated into every detail. Treasures from a bygone era show just how long this place has been out of action for… Up on the third floor, are the harbour chambers, this was accommodation for the harbour board and administration. We find scraps of papers littering the floor dating back to the 60s.
