Corporal Bryan Budd & the Siege of Sangin | Victoria Cross | August 2006

In April 2006, the 16th Air Assault Brigade, centred around the 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, deployed to Helmand, Afghanistan. Two months later, despite already being overstretched, the 3rd Battalion committed troops to the town of Sangin to prevent the enemy seizing it. Over the next few months, Sangin became the focus of some of the most intense fighting of the deployment, including on the 20 August 2006 when 1st Platoon, A Company, 3 PARA, was ambushed whilst on patrol to the North of town. It was during this action that Corporal Bryan Budd, a Section Commander, led an attack on, and singlehandedly cleared, an enemy dug-out. This video is dedicated to the memory of Corporal Bryan Budd and the men of the 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, who lost their lives in the defence of Sangin.
