S.B.S., S.R.R., Gurkhas & The Paras: Operation Ilois | June 2006

In late June 2006, a composite unit, drawn from the Special Boat Service and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, launched Operation Ilois. Although the initial phase of the operation went as planned, it was during the exfiltration phase that the force was ambushed and became pinned down. Despite their not being a Q.R.F. on hand, a Platoon of Gurkha's was rushed forward to reinforce their counterparts in the UKSF and, under the cover of British and American Artillery and aircraft, the SBS-SRR-Gurkha force managed to disengage and get to safety. However, this was not the end of Operation Ilois, as two members of the UKSF contingent were Missing in Action as a result of the ambush, leading to a group of British Paratroopers being flown back into the area to try and find the two soldiers.
