From the Rear of Amtrak Train #2 - Nolte & Seguin, TX

Taken from the rear of Amtrak Train #2, the eastbound Sunset Limited, this shot shows the train passing Nolte Siding and through the town of Seguin, TX, which is about 30 miles east of San Antonio. This is on UP's Glidden Subdivision, and Nolte is the location of a 8,342 ft passing siding and a detector located in Seguin at MP 174.4. The shot begins with the train rolling down the main just west of Nolte and the crew of our Amtrak Train calls out the signal at the west end of Nolte, CP SA178 (The signal is an Approach, Yellow over Red, meaning that the signal at the east end of the siding is Red). The train then stops near the west end of the siding to deliver a few cups of coffee to the crew of a westbound UP train in the siding. This was the result of the UP crew overhearing a conversation between the Amtrak Conductor and Engineer joking about stopping for breakfast. The UP crew asked if they could get something and the two crews arranged for a pit-stop at Nolte to deliver the UP crew some coffee from the dining car (They decided it would be okay for Amtrak to stop because it was running slowly as it was right on the heels of another eastbound train). After resuming our trip from the west end of Nolte, Amtrak Train #2 then passes the train to which it just delivered coffee: UP 7489 with a westbound sand train. And by the time the train reaches the east end of Nolte, CP SA176, the eastbound signal has upgraded to an Advance Approach (Flashing Yellow). However, our train still passes it at a slower speed as there are few speed restrictions in the area. Amtrak Train #2 then heads under TX 46 and IH 10 and into the heart of Seguin. It then passes the Hi-Wide Detector at MP 174.4, which gives "No-Defects" on it's read-out. And from there the train gets back up to speed heads eastward out of Seguin, under TX 123, and into the Texas countryside. As a note, when this video was shot in July 2013 SP searchlights still protected both ends of Nolte Siding. However, their days are numbered as UP has since erected new Vader Colorlights at the siding.
