A traffic accident on Ruta Viva, east of Quito, left three people dead and nine injured. Seven vehicles and a motorcycle were involved in the crash, which occurred when a semi-trailer carrying poultry feed lost control and dragged several vehicles for nearly two kilometers. The impact caused a collision and subsequent fire involving a tanker truck transporting liquefied petroleum gas, forcing the Quito Fire Department to conduct a controlled burn of the fuel to prevent an explosion. The road connecting the capital to the airport remained closed for several hours while authorities carried out rescue, control, and investigation operations.
