In 1994, Bomberman '94 was released on the PC Engine, the crowning achievement of the Bomberman series, and according to Fabian and Gunnar, possibly the pinnacle of the entire series. In this multiplayer classic, small characters plant bombs in rectangular mazes, blow up walls, collect power-ups, and try to eliminate all opponents without blowing themselves up. Fabian and Gunnar explore why the game concept has worked for decades – explainable in a nutshell, but with a tactical and strategic depth that only unfolds during gameplay. Furthermore, the SFT technical expert joins in to introduce the PC Engine and explain what made NEC's console so technically special. The two also recount the story of Hudson Soft: from the radio shop run by two brothers in Sapporo, through the invention of the Bomberman concept, to its close collaboration with NEC and the creation of the PC Engine.
