Old Frame Gets Elegant Makeover | "Vintage" Chalkboard | Clay Appliques | Rustic Fabric Pumpkins
Hello friends! We've got alot to do today. I love when I finally get inspiration to makeover an item that I've had for a long time. The framed, oversized orchid print has been in my home for many years, but it was time for a makeover. The empty space between the windows of my dining room has been begging for something to fill it, and I'm so excited to finally have my handiwork to put there. ~ The beautiful frame was painted with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Plaster using the fabulous Zibra Triangle Tip brush. This brush is perfect for getting paint into tight spaces. Once dry, Colorsmart White Wax from Michael's was generously applied and wiped back. Folk Art Antiquing Wax was sparingly applied and wiped back. I used my blending brush and a small amount of white wax to clean up any excess dark wax to achieve a gorgeously soft, aged, distressed appearance. ~ Mr. Shabby cut a piece of luan to fit into my frame, and I painted it with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Moss. This lovely muted shade of green was the perfect backdrop for the old school chalkboard vibe I was going for. After drying I rubbed the board with chalk, but later discovered I should have waited to do this step. ~ Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut an extra large stencil with a beautiful Bible Verse that evokes feelings of welcome and fellowship in my dining room. "They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts." Just perfect! ~ I painted my stencil with one coat of Rustoleum Chalk Paint in Linen White, and removed my stencil against the grain when the paint was barely dry. ~ Next I added DAS Air Dry Clay Appliques to a wooden toolbox, handcrafted by Mr. Shabby. I used the Iron Orchid Designs "Classic Elements" mould. I used Titebond glue to secure them to my surface and allowed to dry overnight. They were then painted with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Plaster, and dry brushed details were painted with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Truffle. ~ Lastly, my toolbox needed some adorable pumpkins! I took strips of fabric cut into 6inx20in and 12inx24in lengths. These are some of the easiest pumpkins to make, and require no sewing! Just some glue, thread, polyfil, and rubber bands. Complete the look with household items for stems, and whatever you have on hand for embellishments. Thank you for watching, and as always, Be Blessed!
