What if Rhaegar and Robert Were Reborn with their Memories? let's explore the depths of it in the video Thirteen year old Rhaegar Targaryen clutches at his chest, feeling like he's suffocating with a crushed chest. Shaking, the young prince rolls out of bed and walks to the library. These dreams had been troubling him for years, memories of Elia Martell, the wife he loved, and Lyanna Stark, the lady who he thought would produce the final head of the dragon, the battle on the Trident where he'd come face to face with Robert Baratheon and died with Elia's name on his lips. Grabbing an inkpot and quill, Rhaegar sits down at a table and starts writing down possible options. He'd reached for both women in his last life, thinking that Lyanna could fill in for Elia to make the girl he knew had to be the final piece. Rhaegar still remembered the day Aegon was born, he had looked around and seen a beautiful young woman in a quarthen gown with a black and red dragon on her shoulder. He'd known then that he needed another child, a daughter who would bring back dragons. But, it hadn't turned out that way, Robert had killed him, and he had no idea what happened to Lyanna and their unborn child. Running his hands over his face, Rhaegar continues writing. Lyanna might be better able to bear more children, but the issue was Robert Baratheon, maybe if he were to get a betrothal early… But then there was Elia and their children. Rhaegar remembered talking to Elia, how she'd been so kind to him, actually empathizing with his struggles with understanding people and his desire to live up to his destiny. She'd helped him with his melancholy and actually brought him out of feeling like a cloud hung over him. Memories of holding Rhaenys and Aegon in his arms flashed up inside his mind, so clearly that he started crying. Could he just sacrifice that joy? But could he also put Elia through that? She'd been in so much pain, and he'd thought she might die. Rhaegar tried to think of solutions. Befriending Robert Baratheon, preventing the Defiance, marrying Lyanna first, marrying Elia and being content with only two children. For hours and hours, the young prince deliberates, unable to come up with a solution. After morning arrives, Rhaegar wonders if he should tell somebody and get a second opinion. But who? His father would be of no help, Aerys was both erratic and incompetent, Lord Tywin wouldn't believe him and would dismiss him politely but firmly. There was one person though. His mother, Queen Rhaella, might understand. Grabbing his paper, Rhaegar makes his way to his mother's rooms and knocks on the door. Rhaella looks up at him as he walks in, offering her arms to him so she can have him sit next to her on the couch. Rhaella: Rhaegar, what is it, dear? Did you have another nightmare? Rhaegar: Yes, mother, but I think it's more than just a nightmare. It's like I've been living my life twice. Here’s the list of events. I think that I'm seeing my own future. I have an important choice in front of me and I want your help. Eagerly, Rhaegar hands her the paper he'd been writing on. Rhaella accepts it and looks it over, tilting her head speculatively. Rhaegar waits impatiently for his mother to finish, wanting her to give him the answers he needed. When she finally concludes, Rhaella sets the paper aside and puts her arm around him. Rhaella: It seems you have a difficult decision in front of you. But it seems as though you don't actually love Lyanna Stark. You just want her for a strictly utilitarian purpose. While you seem to cherish the memory of Elia Martell and the two children you had together. Rhaegar: I feel like I need her to make the third head of the dragon, the fulfillment of the pact of ice and fire. A girl named Visenya who would bring back dragons. I saw the girl and a dragon, mother, as clear as anything. I couldn't risk Elia's life so I sought her out. Rhaella: My darling boy, I can't advise you about all this fate and destiny business. But I think you should follow your heart, son. #gameofthrones #gameofthroneswhatif #whatif
