Jon waits till the evening to practice with his sword. He'd wanted to spar with Robb earlier, but he'd been with that little ass Prince Joffrey. Frustrated, he smashes his sword against the practice dummy until it's destroyed. A sardonic clap causes Jon to wheel around, finding Joffrey himself. Joffrey (sarcastically): Excellent. Top form. Peerless destruction of an opponent made of straw. Jon takes a long deep breath and ignores the prince. Joffrey, not to be denied his amusement, continues needling Jon. Joffrey (mockingly): So, are you a mute or a simpleton? I’ve never met a mute. Did Lady Catelyn remove your tongue as revenge for Lord Stark fucking some whore? Jon (through gritted teeth): Is there a point to this, Prince Joffrey? Joffrey (mock amazement): Oh, so the mute does speak? So you were just ignoring your prince deliberately. Jon: You didn't ask my opinion on anything till now. Besides, princes don't spar with bastards. Joffrey: Well, maybe we should. I'm feeling a tad bored and this could be a good distraction. But not with tourney blades. Live steel. No stodgy master-at-arms to spoil things. He casually draws his sword and points it at Jon. Jon sets his practice sword aside and picks up his actual blade. As soon as the sword was unsheathed, Joffrey attacked. He was quick and vicious, blade darting forth. Jon deflects consecutive strikes, trying to keep his opponent at bay without hurting him, but Joffrey continues his offensive. Snarling, Joffrey slashes at Jon's arm, which opens a gash in his shoulder. Jon sees red. Raising his sword, Jon attacks, battering Joffrey back. Seeing the bastard enraged causes Joffrey to feel a bit of fear as Jon smashes his blade against the prince’s over and over again. Finally, Jon knocks his opponent to the ground and starts smashing his sword into the prince's. At just the right angle, Jon's sword hits Joffrey's and breaks it. Jon has only enough time to gasp before the blade sinks into Joffrey's shoulder and chest. Shaking at the horror of what he'd just done, Jon backs away, then looks around. Nobody was there. Looking at his trembling hand, Jon glances at Ghost, then he grabs Joffrey's body and hides it in the kennels. Once the body is secure, Jon runs to his rooms, grabs some coins, then flees into the night. Where he would go, he had no idea, but he knew he could not stay . Joffrey's body is found only a few hours after Jon's flight. Cersei is livid at the death of her son and demands that the killer be found so she can have him flayed alive. Ned immediately questions everyone for possible suspects, until he finds out Jon had been practicing in the yard at around the time of the prince's death. Groaning, Ned hides his face in his hands, trying to think of a way to protect the boy. Honor dictated that he should tell the king and queen, but he couldn't bring himself to. What hurts most is Sansa crying in her rooms for her slain golden prince. Ned hides his conflicted feelings as best he can, but it comes out that Jon was in the yard around the time that Joffrey died. Cersei immediately commands a search party be sent out for the boy, so that they can bring him back and execute him. Sansa cries that Jon should never have been born, that he should have died before Joffrey. Ned sends out men to try finding Jon. By the time they follow his trail to White Harbor, the boy has vanished. Cersei angrily dispatches Jaime to find Jon, and the Kingslayer is quick to catch a ship bound for the Free Cities. From his position on the trading galley bound for Essos, Jon watches the coastline of the only home he'd ever known fade into the distance. He could never go back, never. Finally, Jon and Ghost arrive in Pentos and disembark. He wanders the streets looking for work, but all he could really offer was his sword, and most of the people there weren't interested in a household guard. By the time night falls, Jon is forced to find an alley to sleep in. Disappointed, he slumps down next to Ghost and closes his eyes. #gameofthrones #gameofthroneswhatif #whatif
