Every Kinda People Bass Cover

Happy Posthumous Birthday to Robert Palmer who was born on this date in 1949. 'Every Kinda People' by Robert Palmer off of his "Double Fun" album which came out in 1978 and featured Bob Babbit on bass. The song was actually written by Andy Fraser. He might be best known as the guy who gave us the great bass-line in the song "All Right Now" when he played bass with the band "Free". I got pretty familiar with the lyrics while learning this song. It tends to happen when you play a song a shit-ton of times. I found that I really related to their sentiment. I grew up in an apartment complex when I was young... from the 4th Grade until after High School. The complex is called "The Manors". It's still there in Pomona, NY. My Mother raised my two sisters and myself singlehandedly and we were poor. How my Mother kept a roof over our heads, food on the table, clothes on our backs, and still managed to make us feel loved, I will never know. The thing about The Manors was that there were people from all social classes who lived there. One of my friend's Father was a physician. There were families who had much more than we had, but there were also other families who had much less. Everyone, for the very most part, got along just great. All the kids played together and our part of the complex would have a block-party or two every year which was always a great time. The complex was also ethnically diverse, though primarily White, there were a fair number of Black and Hispanic families. There were also a few gay and lesbian people/couples who lived there. These were our friends and neighbors - every kinda people. I don't think I'd be the person I am today had I not grown up surrounded by such a diverse group of people. It prepared me well for a warehouse job I had from 1990 until the company moved out of state in 1999. That place was truly the United Nations of Work Places with Whites, Blacks (Jamaican, Haitian, American), Hispanic (Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican...), Asian (Filipino, Vietnamese...), South Asian (Indian, Pakistani…), Gay and Straight... and I got along, for the very most part, with everyone. I have many fond memories of being with my coworkers at work, at company Christmas parties, and at company picnics/events. I wonder how different my life might have been if I'd grown up around people who were exactly like myself? I know it's coincidental that Robert Palmer's birthday is the day before Martin Luther King's is celebrated, but I feel the connection through this song. I wish that our country (and our world) could be more like The Manors. The bass was built by Joe Kruse of https://www.mbjguitars.com
