Zeiss Movikon 8 with home processed WittnerVision 50D film
I got three rolls of Wittner 50D Double 8 film while they offered a discount on their 7.5m rolls . This is the first one - just to try it out in the Zeiss Ikon Movikon 8 from the early 1950s. It was shot on a sunny short walk at Emsworth in Sussex at the beginning of October 2022. This camera is a simple double-run 8 that runs at about 16fps, and with a simple lens that I sometimes remembered to focus, and check the aperture. It was developed in a semi-home-brew ECN-2 process, using Bellini Digi RA4 developer, Stop made using Acetic acid (1% solution), Ferricyanide bleach made from powder, and ordinary black and white fixer. The colours seem to have come out quite well. After the film is dried it is cut in half using a Lomo 8mm film slitter - the two halves spliced together to make 50 feet of film. Some silly sound effects were added in Kdenlive. Kodak Vision 50D is a really fine grain film - quite well suited to the tiny 8mm frame - but shows the limits of the camera lens. However the Movikon lens seems quite sharp, but with what looks like some chromatic aberration In highlights. Quite a lot of flare on the film, as I wasn't in deep shade as I had to open the camera at the beginning to reload it properly, and again when flipping the film over at the half-way point.
