Sariah Laments
A mother's worst fear, stretched out over days that would not end. Lehi had sent their four sons back to Jerusalem to obtain the brass plates from Laban, a dangerous errand, and the days passed with no word. Sariah could bear it no longer. She mourned, certain her sons were dead, and she turned on her husband, calling him a visionary man who had led them out of their home and their inheritance into the wilderness to perish. Lehi grieved with her, and though he held to his faith, even he sat in the dark with a promise he could scarcely hold onto. Two parents, side by side, calling into an empty desert for children who had not come home. This is the ache underneath the whole journey, the human cost of following a vision when you cannot yet see the end. And it is left where they were left: waiting, not knowing, holding on. Come home, come home. These arms weren't made to be empty and alone. 1 Nephi 5. #BookOfMormon #LDS #Sariah #Lehi #ComeFollowMe #Scripture #BookOfMormon #LDS #ComeFollowMe #LatterDaySaints #Christian #Faith #Scripture #ChristianMusic #mormon Lyrics: There was a voice in the night and I followed it here, And I called it the Lord, and I calmed every fear. But the road’s been so long and the tent’s grown so cold, And I’m holding a promise I’m no longer sure I was told. Come home, come home, These arms weren’t made to be empty and alone. We carried you four, and we’re carrying you still, Come home to us, come home, if you will. Come home. You call it a vision, I’ve called it a grave, You led them to Laban, and who’s left to save? I had all of them sleeping, I had all of them near, And your dreams took them out, and they left me right here. I’d have stayed in the city, I’d have kept them inside, But I saw a thing burning I could not set aside. Now I sit in the dark where no answer has come, And I count the same four, and I wonder what I’ve done. Come home, come home, These arms weren’t made to be empty and alone. We carried you four, and we’re carrying you still, Come home to us, come home, if you will. Come home. (Sariah) Give me back my children. (Lehi) I would lay my life down. (Sariah) You and your visions. (Lehi) …and the dark makes no sound. (Both) For the desert stays silent and it gives nothing back, Just the wind, and the dark, and the long empty track. Come home, come home, These arms weren’t made to be empty and alone. We carried you four, and we’re carrying you still, Come home to us, come home, if you will. Come home. (both, low and broken, fading) Come home… come home… We’re carrying you still.
