We didn't expect THIS in America’s largest National Park

Wrangell-St. Elias is larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Switzerland combined—but most people have never even heard of it. We took on the infamous McCarthy Road to see if we could experience the heart of this 13-million-acre wilderness in just two days. From hiking the Root Glacier to a breathtaking bush plane flight over the Bagley Icefield (the largest non-polar icefield in North America!), this park is unlike anything else we’ve seen in Alaska. We also dive into the "ghost town" history of the Kennecott Copper Mines, an incredible feat of engineering with a surprisingly dark ending. If you’re planning a trip to Alaska, Wrangell-St. Elias is a must—but it isn't easy to get to. Here is everything we did in 48 hours! Interested in more Alaska National Parks? We’re Elliot and Jen, high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia. We hope to inspire others by sharing authentic experiences, discussing the costs and challenges of traveling now, and relating the true, unbridled joy that comes with leaving your comfort zone behind. After years of nomadic life, from cruising America’s Great Loop by boat to building a custom van, we’ve dedicated our journey to exploring every US National Park through deep-country backpacking and wilderness expeditions. The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done,” just how we’ve done it. Thank you for following us along our journey! ________________ Note — Some of these links are affiliates. We only recommend stuff we love; they might give us a small kickback. Thank you!
