Blest Be the God of Israel (Benedictus)
Support the channel below: Tip jar: https://buymeacoffee.com/thelutherank... Walther's Hymnal #152. German original: Gelobet sei Israels Gott. Text: Johann Heermann, 1635, cento; tr. Matthew Carver, 2012. Tune: Louis Bourgeois, 1561. For the Nativity of John the Baptist, we present a paraphrase of the Benedictus, which was traditionally appointed to be sung as the chief hymn on this day in the Lutheran Church. The Lutheran Kantor Project aims to provide recordings of the great Lutheran chorales which are lesser known among English-speaking Lutherans. These recordings are designed to increase familiarity with tune and text. It is the prayer of the founder of The Lutheran Kantor Project that Lutherans will rediscover the great treasury of hymns from their heritage, passed down over the last five centuries. May God bring it to pass. E-mail address for inquiries: [email protected]
