What is the risk of long speech? When we talk too much, we make a rational reduction of some spiritual words that have in them a dimension that exceeds human rationality. That is, it can give us the illusion that we have fully understood the word in question, then that we have put it into a rational scheme and that we can reproduce it. What is good about human reason, among other things? It has universality. And this is very good. It is just that in the spiritual life there is another type of universality. The universality of reason is surpassed. Due to the fact that there is this extreme personalization of the word and because there is always an openness in the words of the saints towards a God who remains inexhaustible in those words. Insistence, however, to explain too much in rational words, can actually kill.
