At least 50 people are at risk of losing their homes, purchased between the 1980s and 1990s, after the Guarulhos City Hall seized 30 lots in the Jardim Santa Paula neighborhood as payment for a debt owed by the construction company Developments do Brasil. The company sold the homes to ordinary people who relied solely on the purchase agreements, but pledged collateral for the properties, which were built, renovated, and occupied, after losing a lawsuit filed by the city accusing it of causing social, urban, and environmental damage in the region.
