What Is the Here and Now? Why Chasing Stillness Takes You Further Away
The “here and now” is often imagined as a special state of silence, clarity, or freedom from thought. But from this perspective, there is no actual way to leave the here and now. Even when thoughts are running, emotions are reacting, images are arising, or the body feels disturbed, all of that is still happening now. At the same time, there is a quiet state often associated with “being in the now.” Reaction loops become thinner, the body and mind feel clearer, and unnecessary self-amplification decreases. The problem begins when we try to chase that stillness as a goal. The desire to become still, reproduce stillness, maintain it, or measure progress can itself become another disturbance. In this video, I explore the difference between the simple fact that everything is already happening now, and the quiet state that people often mistake for “the here and now” itself. Stillness is not something to force. It appears when we stop adding fuel to the loops that keep disturbance generating more disturbance.
