An 8-year-old girl was attacked by a puma while walking with her family near the Cordovil Waterfall, in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region, this Thursday (14). According to witnesses, the animal was on top of a tree and jumped towards the child, who was walking ahead of the group during the return from the trail. The girl will undergo facial surgery at HRAN (Hospital Regional da Asa Norte), in Brasília. The child's father and a guide managed to scare the puma away by throwing a backpack at the animal. The girl suffered facial injuries and received initial treatment at the Alto Paraíso Municipal Hospital before being transferred to Brasília. According to the Fire Department, she was conscious, stable and without apparent fractures. Experts say that attacks of this type are extremely rare in the region. Veterinarian Mateus, a specialist in wild animals, explained that the puma usually avoids contact with humans. “It was a very isolated case and outside the usual behavior of the species,” he stated. The case continues to be monitored by environmental authorities and technical teams in the region. Sergeant Jouber, from the Goiás Fire Department, stated that he had never recorded a similar occurrence in the Chapada dos Veadeiros.
