A family experienced a puma attack in Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás. The incident occurred on the 14th of this month while the family was hiking on a trail within a farm known for ecotourism. Raíssa, 8 years old, was at the front of the group when the animal emerged from the vegetation and attacked her. The child's father reported that everything happened quickly. The mother managed to scare the puma away by running to help her daughter. A local employee also helped by throwing objects at the animal until it was completely driven away. Raíssa suffered injuries to her face and a small cut on her arm. She was immediately taken to the hospital in Alto Paraíso before being transferred to Brasília, where she underwent a single surgical procedure and is already recovering well. The presence of pumas is common in the region due to the rich local biodiversity. However, attacks like this are rare according to experts, who highlighted that interactions between humans and wild animals generally do not result in aggression.
