L’ultima TUTTOFARE sopravvissuta? Prova (senza pietà) Suzuki S-CROSS 4x4 ⛰️
In this new special test, we put the Suzuki S-Cross to the test to see if it's truly one of the last "all-rounders" left on the market: practical, rational, and capable of handling a wide range of situations. To prove it, we took it on a challenging route, including wet asphalt, steep climbs, Alpine hairpin bends, slippery leaves, and dirt roads, until we reached a cabin at over 1,300 meters. The car tackled the route with summer tires, a deliberate choice to demonstrate the power of the AllGrip all-wheel drive system. Despite some tricky moments—especially when restarting on very steep climbs covered in wet leaves—the S-Cross always manages to get out of trouble thanks to Lock mode, which distributes traction 50/50. It's not a specialized off-roader (it lacks low gear, and you have to use the brakes more when descending), but it still allows for small off-road adventures with surprising efficiency. Upon reaching the cabin after the final treacherous climb, the first realization dawns: many front-wheel drive SUVs would never have made it to such a remote location in those conditions. Beyond its off-road capabilities, the S-Cross also proves to be an excellent everyday companion: a generously sized trunk (almost 300 liters, 440 with the floor lowered), a usable and nearly flat cargo area with the seats folded down, square shapes useful for moving, and plenty of room for rear passengers too. The interior is simple and traditional, with easy-to-use physical controls, well-designed climate control, and a revamped infotainment system—basic but equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Instrumentation is largely analog, and the materials are rigid yet solid, in keeping with the Japanese philosophy of durability over visual impact. On the road, the car prioritizes comfort: a soft ride, excellent bump absorption, a bit of body roll when cornering, but excellent comfort when traveling. The 1.4-liter Boosterjet mild hybrid engine with 110 hp doesn't offer brilliant performance, but it does offer reliability and very low fuel consumption: an average of over 16 km/l, with peaks in leisurely use. The manual transmission, a rare sight these days, is precise and comfortable, while the steering is light and designed for urban use. The S-Cross is therefore a true family one-car, capable of adapting to the city, travel, and even the occasional mountain adventure. Prices start at around €28,500 (€24,500 on offer with trade-in). All-wheel drive costs €3,000 and is highly recommended; the automatic transmission requires a significant premium because it's combined with the Top Plus trim level. The car we tested, with optional accessories and color, comes in at around €33,800 (€29,800 on offer).
