KOTABUMI (July 13, 2026) – The North Lampung Police Criminal Investigation Unit has successfully solved the case of the death of Safitri, also known as Eni, 56, a widowed former migrant worker (TKW) in Sawojajar Village, North Kotabumi District. The victim was apparently murdered by two of her neighbors. North Lampung Police Chief, AKBP Deddy Kurniawan, explained on Monday, July 13, 2026, that the case was uncovered based on an investigation by the 308 Precision Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Lampung Police, along with the Lampung Regional Police Mobile Brigade (Resmob) and the North Kotabumi Sector Police. The two suspects, identified as SAS, 30, and R, 28, were arrested in South Sungkai District. Both suspects were shot dead after resisting officers during the investigation and search for evidence in the alleged murder and robbery of Safitri's widow. The investigation revealed that the motive for the murder was to seize property. The perpetrators knew Safitri, a former migrant worker who lived alone and was suspected of storing cash, US dollars, and jewelry from her work abroad. After killing the victim, the perpetrators made off with US$444, equivalent to Rp7.2 million, 20 Philippine pesos, Rp59,000 in cash, four pairs of gold earrings, two necklaces and pendants, a gold ring, two cell phones, a Honda Beat motorcycle, and a watch. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Lampung Police, AKP Ivan Roland Cristofel, revealed that the investigation showed that the two suspects resorted to murder and robbery due to debt and an addiction to online gambling. The proceeds were used to pay debts, gamble online, and buy narcotics. Police seized evidence of marijuana, methamphetamine residue, and drug smoking equipment from the suspects. Urine tests showed both men tested positive for methamphetamine. Investigators are investigating the involvement of other parties, including the alleged receiver of the motorcycle's stolen goods and a man who allegedly drove the two perpetrators to the victim's home. The two suspects were charged under Article 365 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code concerning Theft with Violence Resulting in Death and/or Article 338 of the Criminal Code concerning Murder.
