What if you don't need boring drills to improve your swimming, but just need to change the focus of your swimming, change a key? We know that drills are essential tools for swimming, but in this video, I'll show you how paying attention to the movement is sometimes more important, and you can practice it throughout the entire workout. Ultimately, this will be educational for you too! You know when your coach keeps saying "stretch," "stretch more," "glide more?" I'll explain what that means. To do this, you really need to slow down your stroke, become aware of each movement, and this requires some experience. Have you ever tried swimming a smooth freestyle, with as little force as possible, trying to achieve maximum amplitude in each stroke? Sometimes that's all you need to swim easily, and in some cases, this swimming style can be faster and more economical than conventional swimming. Swimming with a stretch requires a lot of concentration and range of motion. With every stroke, you should project your fingers forward, stretching and reaching forward. Your fingers and hands should be relaxed, but not to the point of bending, but so that you can feel the water flowing over your hands. This should allow you to feel your body glide, taking advantage of the propulsion caused by the stroke. The stroke should continue without interruption, and the main focus is always on the range of motion. The initial phase, pull, push, and finish are secondary in this exercise, which will automatically adjust if you maintain swimming alignment. To do this exercise, you must be well adapted to the water and 100% present in the execution of the movement; doing it for the sake of it won't help you. From there, you can add more rhythm to your stroke, but without losing that more elongated style. A good exercise to do is to count your strokes in each pool, along with the time. The calculation is simple: if you decrease your strokes and maintain or improve your time, it means better economy of movement.
