When the school called and asked me to come in alone, I honestly braced myself, expecting to be scolded. But what the teacher said to me in the classroom wasn't accusatory. "I was fumbling around too," she said. Before being a teacher, she was a mother, constantly struggling and suffering to figure out what the right thing to do was for my daughter. When I heard her honest feelings, I realized for the first time: No one was acting with the intention of hurting my daughter. Everyone was desperately trying to find the right answer.
