KLUG & TOD: Elisa Klinkenberg: Wie überlebt man das Leben gut?
Before we begin, an important note: In this podcast, we speak openly about euthanasia, assisted dying, and suicide. If this is difficult for you to listen to, please do not listen to the episode alone. You can find anonymous help by contacting the suicide prevention hotline at 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222, as well as at suizidprophylaxe.de. In this episode of "Klug & Tod" (Smart & Death), Johanna Klug speaks with Elisa Klinkenberg: artist, author, former professional tennis player, and a woman who learned early on that goodbyes don't only happen at the end of life, but also in the middle. In this conversation, Elisa shares how she accompanied her grandmother in her final hours, why grief sometimes feels as if the gears of time have stopped meshing, and what truly helps when someone is grieving: why "I'm holding you in my thoughts" can offer more comfort than "I know how you feel." Elisa also talks about a topic that is rarely discussed publicly: the grief over the loss of a beloved pet. She speaks about her dog Peppels, the question of guilt that arises with the decision to euthanize, and the loneliness that is sometimes greater than when grieving for a human being. It's a conversation about farewells that occur in the midst of life and what it means to navigate life successfully. New episodes are released every two weeks. "Clever & Dead" is an initiative of the German Society for Humane Dying (DGHS) and a production of Studio Trill. It provides a space for honest, relatable, and taboo-free conversations about dying, grief, self-determination, and assisted suicide. New episodes are released every two weeks.
