Layout #2, Video #46 - Kato Milwaukee Road Olympian Hiawatha Post 1955 paint scheme

This is our 122nd video documenting our exploration of the model railroading hobby. It is the 46th video for our second (N Scale) layout. In this video, we introduce the new Kato Milwaukee Road Olympian Hiawatha passenger train in post-1955 colors. This train set was made as a complement to the earlier Milwaukee Road Olympian Hiawatha train set Kato offered. The Hiawatha originally ran an orange and red paint scheme when it started running in 1947 and the earlier Kato set duplicated these colors. Beginning in 1955, Milwaukee Road announced they would pull Union Pacific streamliners between Chicago and Omaha. This meant that in 1956, the Hiawatha was painted in UP's armor yellow paint scheme. It continued that way until it stopped running and Amtrak took over passenger service in the US in 1971. The set is very well detailed, as is the earlier set. I said in the video that it looks like it was the same tooling used, but on Kato's web page they reference new tooling and a new FP7 mechanism. Either way, the set looks good and runs well, with some of the same problems as my original set. The problems include my not getting the taillights to switch direction properly with the DCC electronics and some cars not wanting to stay coupled as well as I would like. Similar problems on both sets may indicate that the problem is the user, not the manufacturer. I cannot deny that is always a good possibility. Overall, I am as pleased with this train as I am with most of my Kato products. In my experience, Kato builds quality trains and when the rare problem does occur, they stand behind the warranty.
