Anxiety and Depression: From the Perspective of Morita Therapy

The theme of the Mental Health & Morita Therapy Seminar Vol.11 is “Anxiety and Depression: From the Perspective of Morita Therapy.” The lecturer is Dr. Takeshi Ashizawa (Director, Shiseikai Chitose Hospital). In this episode, we will primarily explain the principles of Morita Therapy as they relate to anxiety and depression. This therapy views the “Desire for life” and the “Fear of death” as two sides of the same coin, and recommends setting aside any anxiety that arises and focusing on the task at hand. Furthermore, self-help groups based on this therapy have flourished and play a vital role in recovery. The instructor will share their personal experience of struggling with anxiety and depression following a heart attack, emphasizing the importance of finding interest and joy in life.
