Paul Weller – Picking Up Sticks (Live) | First Time Reaction | Another Masterpiece!

Today I'm reacting to Paul Weller – "Picking Up Sticks" (Live on Later... with Jools Holland, 2000) for the very first time! This was another Super Thanks request from @nicklittle8909. Thanks again, Nick, for your incredible support of the channel! At this point, what can I really say about Paul Weller that I haven't already said? Every time I hear another one of his solo songs, I come away even more impressed. He's quickly become one of my favorite artists, and I have to admit, I'm finding myself enjoying his solo material even more than what I've heard from The Jam or The Style Council. One thing that immediately stood out in this performance was seeing Paul behind an electric piano instead of a guitar. It was a cool change of pace and just showed another side of his musicianship. There were also some really nice little drum fills throughout the song that kept everything moving, and one instrument completely caught me off guard. It turned out to be a hurdy-gurdy, a traditional stringed instrument that's played by turning a hand crank while pressing keys to change the notes. I'd never really paid attention to one before, but it gave the song a really unique texture. The song itself was just outstanding. Soulful, beautifully arranged, and full of the kind of musical maturity that Paul Weller seems to bring to everything he does. There's honestly not a whole lot for me to critique because I simply loved it. This one gets an easy two thumbs up, and it'll definitely be going onto my All-Time Favorites playlist.
