Leuk, een rokje in de kast, en past ie nog?

Léia wanted to wear a skirt recently, but it turned out it didn't fit at all anymore! How is that possible? Together with Dini, she assesses the fit of at least 12 skirts in this episode of Timzalot, the House of Handicrafts... 00:00 What is going to happen? 01:20 The lipstick incident 05:43 Blue skirt 06:49 Hunter green skirt 08:24 Crinkle skirt 09:03 White summer skirt 10:44 Laura Ashley skirt 11:39 Wool skirt 13:09 Long red skirt 14:04 Green dance skirt 15:29 Asymmetrical skirt 18:24 Ameland skirt 21:15 Silk Sissy Boy skirt 23:52 Is there something for you? Dini and Léia are ready together again for a new episode of Timzalot – The House of Handicrafts. Today the tablecloth comes off, revealing a confronting pile of clothes on the table: a collection of old skirts from Léia’s closet. Even before the fashion show begins, a minor drama unfolds in the restroom. Dini accidentally knocks over Léia’s makeup bag just as the toilet is being flushed. A lipstick disappears irrevocably down the drain. Then the real work begins. Léia explains that she used to dance a lot and always wore skirts. They are all still hanging in another closet: memories of dance nights, competitions, and a different figure. Together, they count at least ten. Now she wants to sort out what still fits, what can go, and what might get a second life. The first skirt just barely fits. The elastic waistband rolls down immediately and sits higher at the back than at the front, but theoretically, it should still work. Skirt after skirt follows, always with the same pattern: beautiful fabric, a nice memory, but unfortunately, no clasp that will close anymore. Some are from brands like Sissy Boy or Bonita, others Léia made herself. And that is precisely what makes it extra difficult to part with. Every skirt has a story. A long skirt in a swamp color reminds her of a homemade jacket with deliberately slanted details and loose glitter bits – fashion with a wink. Another skirt takes her back to a storytelling competition for which she went to the awards ceremony hopefully, convinced she had won. It turned out she had only been invited to fill the room. Disappointing at the time, but now it mainly elicits laughter. Then there is the famous Ameland skirt. Léia recounts how she once visited a boyfriend who was a hotel manager. Upon arrival, he wasn't waiting for her, and she was left to entertain herself. On the way to the hotel, she bought that skirt. Slowly, the pile of bad purchases turns into a selection. Much is discarded, a few pieces remain. In the end, Léia is left with two skirts: one to alter and one that is still perfectly wearable, provided it is paired with a nice shirt or blouse. That feels like a victory. Not only space in the closet, but also new possibilities. They decide that viewers interested in the remaining skirts are welcome to come forward. Many items can be given away for free, especially to loyal members of their channel. The clothing might then find a new life elsewhere. Yet, beneath all the jokes, there is also something melancholic. Those skirts are more than just fabric and seams. They belong to a period of dancing, performing, and memories of the past. Getting rid of them feels a bit like saying goodbye to that life. But as Dini says: that past isn't in the closet, it's in the heart. With that thought, they conclude. The table is emptier, the closet will be soon too, and the mood remains light. Sometimes tidying up is simply the emotional kind of needlework. ✨ Timzalot, the house of needlework, is an initiative by Dini Bangma and Léia Smit, who wanted to show together during the corona crisis how nice it can be to do needlework with a friend, or in the company of the Timzalots. Timzalot, the house of needlework, is an initiative by Dini Bangma and Léia Smit, who wanted to show during the corona crisis how wonderful it can be to do needlework with a friend, or in the company of the Timzalots. It has been scientifically proven time and again that knitting, crocheting, embroidery, or whatever crafting technique you take up, can have a calming effect and relax your mind. With the added bonus, of course, that your work yields something valuable, simply because you made it yourself! And the fact that we are now entering our sixth year, still with new ideas every week, shows just how virtually endless the possibilities are.
