Day 4 of our Delhi to Gangtok bike trip began in Gopalganj, Bihar. Our destination for the day was Araria, an important district located in the far eastern and northeastern part of Bihar. We started early in the morning. After riding around 150 kilometers, we decided to stop for breakfast. We ordered aloo parathas, but later realized it was our mistake. This region is better known for its traditional sattu parathas and authentic Bihari cuisine rather than aloo parathas. The parathas were average, but it wasn't the restaurant's fault—we should have tried the local specialties instead. After breakfast, we resumed our journey around 10 a.m. Our plan was to stop at Mithila Haat, located ahead of Jhanjharpur, but for some reason we couldn't. When we started feeling hungry again, we stopped near Narpatganj. About 10 kilometers earlier, while refueling our bike, we had asked some locals for a good place to eat. They recommended Satkar Hotel, so we headed there and ordered a traditional thali. The thali included rice, three different vegetable dishes, dal, papad, onion, lemon, and pickle. We also ordered two sponge rasgullas for dessert. This was our first authentic taste of Mithila cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious. What made it special was its authentic local flavor. The local water, fresh vegetables, and traditional cooking style gave the meal a unique taste. At just ₹90, this thali became one of the most memorable meals of our entire journey. The hotel also had a good selection of sweets, so we spent some time exploring their local desserts. After lunch, we continued towards Araria. Crossing Forbesganj, we finally reached Araria at around 4 p.m. We covered nearly 400 kilometers in about 10 hours. Once we arrived, we started looking for a hotel. There weren't many good options in the city, but we found a decent hotel on the outskirts for around ₹1,500. Although Araria is a district headquarters, it is still a relatively small town, so accommodation choices are limited. After checking into the hotel, we noticed that the bike's horn had stopped working. We first visited a Royal Enfield workshop, but they couldn't fix the issue. It seemed to be caused by a faulty clip or a small component. We then visited a nearby local repair shop, where the mechanic replaced the horn completely, and the bike was back in perfect working condition. After that, we returned to the hotel, relaxed for the evening, and prepared for the next day's ride. The next morning, we started early once again. In Bihar, daylight arrives very early during this season, with the sky beginning to brighten around 4:30 a.m. Even so, we were ready to leave by 6 a.m. Today's ride would take us from Araria towards West Bengal. The highway connecting Araria to the Panitanki border is one of the finest roads we encountered in Bihar. The wide, smooth road and excellent riding conditions made it a pleasure to ride. In my opinion, it was one of the best highways we traveled on in Bihar. However, as soon as we crossed into West Bengal, the road narrowed to a single lane, and a completely new chapter of our journey began.
