In this tour, we visit Malacatán, one of the most important municipalities in the department of San Marcos and one of the main border cities in western Guatemala. We explore its main commercial streets, the central park, the San Miguel Arcángel Church, the La Trinidad and Gran Plaza shopping centers, and observe how this municipality has grown thanks to its proximity to the Guatemala-Mexico border. During the tour, we also discuss the El Carmen border crossing, its proximity to Tapachula, Chiapas, and why thousands of people cross this region daily for tourism, commerce, shopping, and work.
