My Facebook page is:   / gjukulele   Some songs I dare not play casually, much less sing casually. Unless the emotions are deep enough, singing them easily draws me into that kind of sorrow. Jiang Hui's "The Sound of Rain," produced by Jay Chou and Vincent Fang, is perhaps unparalleled in its beauty, unlike Jiang Hui's voice. For the past two months, I've often seen an old friend expressing his reluctance to part with loved ones. Actually, I know "this is just the beginning." From the moment you know you're going to lose someone, you begin to miss them. You miss the times you could talk about anything, you miss the times you argued... those... Actually, the longer time goes by, the more you'll forget, and you'll return to your life. But "every now and then," the longing will come like a spring, a wave, or even a typhoon—unavoidable, uncontrollable, unstoppable. If today's separation is with a living person, it's a separation in life. People often don't bother to deal with separations in life. But because it's a separation from a deceased person, only one-sided information remains. Perhaps because of this, many negative energies might be overlooked. As the saying goes, "Pain will pass, beauty will remain." The remaining memories are all good. What happened to the deceased? We have no way of knowing. No matter how many rituals, how much heartfelt sentiment, how many words, it's difficult to ensure that they are received by the other person. This is "separation by death." At least, we haven't yet figured out how to communicate effectively and stably with the deceased. Everything is our one-sided, biased belief and speculation. Perhaps it's precisely because of this that such precious feelings can exist? While everyone knows we should "cherish the people in front of us," who doesn't easily get angry or hold grudges with their family and friends? While everyone says we should cherish the time we spend together, who doesn't sometimes hesitate to offer more warmth because of various petty concerns or pride? Perhaps, after experiencing more separations and deaths, friends can become more detached from these unnecessary formalities? If you can't let go easily, then... you can only wait until you experience more before things change. It's like many "children wishing to care for their parents" always end up with "their parents no longer alive." It seems like an endless cycle. No wonder some say, "What people learn from history is that they can't learn anything from history." Precedents are always being spoken of, always being acted upon, and indeed, always being repeated. But... because of my feelings, I wanted to sing this song. Recently, due to performance schedules, I've been spending a lot of time with friends who are "very good singers." Although I've loved singing since I was little, my singing has never been particularly outstanding. These days, when I hear my friends who are good singers rehearsing, performing, and recording, I always feel good about themselves, and I also feel a little inferior, making me hesitant to sing freely. But I know those feelings are unnecessary. Because the reason I sing is because I want to sing, because I enjoy singing. I have emotions in my heart that words alone cannot express. So I sing; that kind of singing is an expression of my inner feelings. So, why do you play the piano? Why do you sing? I think music shouldn't exist because of comparisons with others. I've always felt it's a wonderful bridge for inner and outer expression and soothing. Just like tears are a medium, music provides another channel, making it easier to convey inner feelings. My old friend who lost a loved one might not see this performance. While this performance arose from his experience, it wasn't meant to be played or sung for him. "Connection" between people is an attempt to understand each other. Tonight, I expressed these feelings in this song. No matter how ordinary or average I did, I accomplished what I wanted to do. And so, I achieved self-healing. That's enough. Sharing these feelings with friends might resonate with someone. Even if I haven't done anything meritorious, I feel I've gained something. Haha.
