Fonfría (Teruel)

Fonfría is a municipality in the province of Teruel in the Autonomous Community of Aragon. It belongs to the Jiloca region. In 2024, it had 35 registered inhabitants. The village's mountain range has been declared a Site of Community Interest and is part of the Natura 2000 Network. The highest point in the hamlet is Pico de la Retuerta at 1,492 meters. The forests of holm oaks and gall oaks, with manicured pine groves and alpine meadows, rich in orchid species, mingle with cliffs and ravines that give rise to small lagoons known as ponds. It is also an area of oyster mushroom and other mushroom varieties. This town was possibly founded, like other villages in the area, in the 12th century, following the defeat of the Moors in the Battle of Cutanda, near Calamocha… Its local history is little studied. It is speculated that King James I, who conquered Aragonese and Valencian lands from the Arabs, was in these places, leaving traces of his presence, for example in the hermitage of the Virgen de la Silla. 📸 Photo report at: https://vivetupueblo.es/teruel/fonfria/ 🔗 Everything you need to know (what to do, where to eat or sleep, interesting facts, etc.) at: https://vivetupueblo.es/teruel/fonfria/ 📲💻 📍 Places to visit: Church of San Miguel and Santa Cruz ⛪ Chapel of the Virgen de la Silla ⛪ Trinquete 🏀 Source of the Huerva River 💦 Rafts 💦 Remains of the Civil War Labrador Park 🌲 Wash House 🧺 Old Fountain ⛲
