From Struggling Students to Community Leaders: Nathan & Ronnie’s Journey | King's Trust Awards 2025

Nathan and Ronnie, both 16 and from Leeds, faced a challenging time during the key, formative years of moving from primary to secondary school as a result of the pandemic. Most of their Year 6 and 7 learning took place over Zoom, which impacted their confidence and learning. As a result they struggled socially to bond with others and adjust to their new school environment. But despite those early challenges, Nathan and Ronnie have gone on to make a powerful difference. They set up Unity Community, a hub designed to bring people together and support others in their area.
