“Victorious Humility” As Christ followers our desire is to become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. How we respond to people and situations should be an example of what Christ would do. It’s the old saying, “What Would Jesus Do.” (WWJD) If we desire to be an example of Christ to others, we need to know all we can about Jesus. Though Jesus rarely spoke of Himself directly, once in scripture He described His inner self. “…for I am gentle and humble in heart…” (Matthew 11:29) The Greek word translated “humble” means, “to make low” or “to make small or insignificant.” This is the term Jesus used to describe Himself. After all, Jesus did lay aside His deity to seek and save us. (Philippians 2:7) This has always been the posture of those who follow God. “…to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) What it does not mean is to bow down in defeat or shame. As Charles Swindoll said, “Our pattern is Jesus…authentic humility is only possible for victorious men and women!” We are victorious in Christ therefore we can say let Christ increase in our lives as we decrease and live for Him. (John 3:30) That is a victorious life lived in humility. Lewisville Bible Church is centered in Christ, founded on the Word of God, the Bible, strengthened through prayer, intentional in sharing the good news of life in Christ, caring about people and the needs of our community; and committed to the spread of the gospel around the world.
