The Surabaya City Government finally opened access to the Lontar Radial Road on Monday afternoon (June 29, 2026). The road was also opened for traffic testing. The western access road was opened by the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, along with the Head of the Surabaya City Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM), Hidayat Syah, and other heads of regional government agencies. Mayor Eri stated that the Lontar Radial Road is now operational and can be used by vehicles. "We will operate this Radial Road for people to pass through. But only in one direction, from east to west," said Mayor Eri. On this occasion, Mayor Eri stated that the Surabaya City Government also plans to conduct public awareness campaigns regarding the one-way access to Lontar Highway. "We are also promoting the one-way road from Lontar, so we will make it one-way. So, it won't be two-way, so there will be no traffic jams," he said. The Mayor of Surabaya, familiarly known as Cak Eri Cahyadi, stated that the Lontar Radial Road will eventually alleviate the congestion that frequently occurs on Jalan Raya Lontar. "Because Jalan Lontar is a small road, it has two lanes, right? So, this one will be made single lane. But we've opened it first to reduce congestion, and God willing, both lanes will be operational next week," he said. Once fully reopened, Cak Eri assured that congestion in the area will be eased. Traffic heading from Pakuwon Trade Center (PTC) to Citraland will be divided, eliminating congestion on Jalan Raya Lontar. "God willing, there will be no more congestion, because there was a long traffic jam on Jalan Lontar. So with this (Radial Road) there will be no congestion in the Lontar area. It's been divided," he said. Cak Eri explained that the Lontar Radial Road will not only be useful for alleviating congestion in West Surabaya but will also have a positive impact on the investment climate in Surabaya going forward. Because the location has become a commercial service area. "So, in this location (road), the Land and Building Tax (PBB) has increased because it's now a major road. The PBB will automatically increase because it's no longer a residential area, but a commercial service area," he explained. In addition, the Head of the Surabaya City DSDABM, Hidayat Syah, said that the opening of the Lontar Radial Road also serves as a traffic trial. Currently, the trial is only being conducted on one lane from east to west. "So, the trial traffic will be from east to west. Later, we'll also be testing traffic from Lontar Road from west to east. We'll be testing the engineering," Hidayat said. Hidayat explained that this traffic trial will last for two weeks. Vehicles traveling from west to east will be directed via Lontar Highway. Vehicles traveling from east to west will be directed via Radial Road. "So far, Jalan Lontar has been two-way, but the Mayor wants to trial a one-way route to ease traffic congestion. It will take a week, and then, if there are no problems, it will be officially opened," he concluded.
