Suman Yakap | Suman sa Lihiya with Coconut Sauce

Suman Yakap also known as Suman sa Lihiya is another type of suman made from sticky rice, wrapped in banana leaves and boiled for 2 hours until done. It is served with coconut caramel sauce topped with latik or topped with freshly grated coconut with muscovado sugar. INGREDIENTS: This recipe makes 9 - 10 suman yakap For Suman: 1 kg glutinous rice water Banana leaves, cleaned and wilted for wrapping 2 tsp lye water kitchen twine or plastic straw For Latik: 1 can ( 400ml ) coconut cream For Coconut Caramel Sauce: 1 pcs panutsa or 1 cup dark brown sugar 1/3 cup water 1 can ( 400ml ) coconut milk Other Toppings: fresh grated coconut muscovado sugar Let us know if you've tried making this recipe and how it went.
