THE POWER OF SACRIFICE Acts 10:1–4 – Cornelius’ prayers and giving come up as a memorial before God. 2 Samuel 24:24 – “I will not offer to the Lord my God that which costs me nothing.” Romans 12:1 – “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God…” Every Christian is called to a life of sacrifice. In a culture driven by convenience and feelings, true Christianity demands more than words—it demands devotion. Many profess faith, but when the cost of obedience appears, commitment often fades. Sacrifice involves two key dimensions: 1. What we give 2. What we deny ourselves To follow Jesus means we will lose certain comforts, preferences, and sometimes opportunities. Devotion is not casual—it is costly. What Makes Sacrifice Authentic? 1. It Is for God - A true sacrifice is directed toward pleasing God. If God is not the focus, it is not a spiritual sacrifice. As Romans 12:1 teaches, we present ourselves to Him—not to impress people, but to honor Him. 2. It Must Cost You Something - King David declared in 2 Samuel 24:24 that he would not offer God something that cost him nothing. Convenient Christianity is not authentic Christianity. Real sacrifice stretches you. It challenges comfort. It requires surrender. Nothing valuable in life comes without a price. If something appears “free,” someone has paid—or you will pay later. The same is true spiritually: growth, impact, and power require sacrifice. The Power Released Through Sacrifice When we sacrifice, heaven responds. 1. The Power of Divine Encounter - In Acts 10, Cornelius’ giving and prayers rose before God as a memorial. His sacrifice positioned him for a divine visitation. 2. The Power to Bless Others - Cornelius’ obedience did not only bless him—it brought salvation to his entire household. True sacrifice carries generational and communal impact. Sacrificial living unlocks divine power. When we give to God and deny ourselves for His sake, we position ourselves for encounters, transformation, and impact. Let us embrace the attitude of sacrificial devotion—and witness God’s power at work in our lives.
