In a thug-like manner, the family of a female student at Trenggalek 1 Junior High School beat her and threatened to burn down her house and raze the school. This threat came after teacher Eko Prayitno enforced the rules by confiscating the student's cell phone. Cell Phone Confiscation Triggers Anger and Violence The incident occurred on Friday (October 31, 2025), shortly after Eko returned from teaching. The student's father called Eko in a high-pitched voice and challenged him to a fight. Although Eko tried to explain the situation, he refused to listen. "As soon as I got home, her father called me in an explosive voice, even challenging me to a fight. He insisted that I immediately return his daughter's cell phone," said Eko Prayitno. Eko explained that he confiscated the student's cell phone because it was being used during class. In accordance with school regulations, he handed the phone over to the student affairs department for safekeeping. "I didn't break the phone. I just confiscated it in accordance with school regulations and handed it over to student affairs to be returned the next day," he explained. Student's Family Visits Home and Beats Him in Front of Wife A few hours after the phone call, a black car stopped in front of Eko's house. A man got out and loudly cursed at Eko. Furthermore, the man, who claimed to be the student's older brother, then hit Eko twice on the head. "The beating took place in front of my house. After that, I immediately reported it to the Trenggalek Police and underwent a medical examination at the hospital around 2:00 PM," Eko said. The older brother also threatened to burn down Eko's house and raze the school. He even said he would buy Eko's head. "He threatened that if I didn't come to his father's house that day, my house would be burned down and the school would be ragged," Eko recalled bitterly. Victim's Family Experiences Trauma, Police Handle Case This incident has left Eko's family severely traumatized. His fourth-grade daughter is now terrified every time she hears a car passing by. "My daughter immediately looks for her mother every time she hears a car passing by. My wife also has trouble sleeping after witnessing the beating," he said. The Head of the Trenggalek Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Eko Widiantoro, confirmed that the police had received a report of the assault. The Criminal Investigation Unit has also conducted an investigation and questioned witnesses. "We are currently still investigating and have questioned several witnesses," said AKP Eko Widiantoro. The police confirmed that they will process this case according to applicable law. If proven guilty, the perpetrator will be charged under Article 351 of the Criminal Code concerning assault.
