Cantar... | SHEILA BLANCO | TEDxUFV

In this inspiring talk, Sheila explores the profound impact of singing on our lives, both personally and communally. With passion and expertise, she highlights how singing not only has the unique ability to touch our deepest emotions but also strengthens bonds within our communities, acting as a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being. Sheila explains how singing can reduce stress and anxiety levels, improve mood, and increase the overall sense of well-being. By triggering the release of endorphins, the happiness hormones, and oxytocin, the bonding hormone, singing contributes significantly to our mental health. Furthermore, she addresses the cultural importance of singing, explaining how songs have been a means of transmitting stories, values, and traditions from generation to generation. She emphasizes the role of singing in various ceremonies and rituals, underscoring its ability to preserve cultural identity and connect people to their roots. In this talk, Sheila invites us to rediscover the power of singing as an essential tool for individual and collective well-being, enriching our lives and our communities. Born in Salamanca, she immersed herself in music from a young age, complementing her journalism studies with singing, piano, and movement. After moving to Madrid, she combined her career as a journalist with music, eventually dedicating herself entirely to the latter in 2009. She has collaborated with various bands and artists, exploring genres such as jazz, blues, and folk, among others. Her work includes music outreach projects such as "Bioclassics," sung biographies of the great composers of classical music, and "Singing the Poets of '27," where she sets poems by women of this generation to music. She is currently immersed in the creation of new musical projects and collaborates on the radio programs La Ventana and Sofá Sonoro on Cadena SER. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
