Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Hungary. I spent about two weeks visiting vintage clothing stores and antique shops in Eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula. There's absolutely no information available about vintage clothing in this area. I decided on this itinerary because I wanted to visit the former Yugoslavia. In my travel videos, I share the local atmosphere, the selection of goods in the shops, and even the real prices—things you can't get from online information alone. I'll talk about everything, the good points and the things that were honestly a bit disappointing. ■ Visiting Vintage Clothing Stores in Each City 1. Hungary (Budapest): The Highlight of This Trip Budapest was the most impressive and fruitful city. I found Levi's pre-dyed 501s (approx. ¥4,500) at Gizmo Vintage and French-made Adidas (approx. ¥3,200) at Royal Budapest Vintage, among other satisfying purchases. The profits from these resales alone covered my dormitory accommodation costs. Famous chain stores like "Humana" often carry a lot of secondhand fast fashion, depending on the time of year and the specific store, making it quite challenging to find genuine vintage clothing. 2. Croatia (Zagreb): High Prices, But Great Finds Perhaps due to its status as a tourist destination, I was surprised by the generally high prices. I found an antique Omega watch (approximately 63,000 yen) at a small antique shop. While not secondhand clothing, its excellent condition made it the biggest purchase of the trip. Regarding secondhand clothing, prices were often comparable to, or even higher than, those in Japan. 3. Serbia, Bulgaria, and Bosnia: A Series of Bargains Many stores were more like "recycle shops" than vintage clothing stores, making the search more difficult. A silver ring (approximately 4,000 yen) I bought at Art Nouveau Belgrade in Serbia is a favorite due to its unique design. There were few stores where I felt I could find something truly special, and I sometimes walked for hours without finding anything. Especially with soccer shirts, there are many fakes, so it's really difficult to tell the difference. ■ Reflections after the trip Regarding prices: It's not the case that "everything is cheap because it's Eastern Europe." Shops that understand the value of items charge accordingly. However, the charm of this area might be that you can find a bargain in a shop on a street corner and think, "Wow, this for this price?" However, due to its history, there are almost no vintage clothing stores. Of the seven cities I visited, Budapest was the only one where old items remained, and I felt there was a demand for vintage clothing and antiques. Safety and transportation: There were some tense moments, such as traveling by tram in Sarajevo and walking down back alleys at night, but I feel that these experiences, including those, allowed me to experience the real vintage clothing culture of the region. Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary. I hope this will be helpful for those who are thinking of going to Eastern Europe to look for vintage clothing in the former Yugoslavia region, and I hope you simply enjoy seeing what vintage clothing stores abroad are like these days! --- Hello, this is kurakurakurarin!
