The history of the Home Army unit "Sosienki" begins in the early spring of 1943. The decision to establish it was made by the new commander of the organization's Oświęcim district, Captain Jan Wawrzyczek, codename "Danuta." This move was likely dictated by the desire to unify the command structures of the three sabotage groups operating in Jawiszowice-Łęki, Bielany, and Bielany-Kańczuga. Their activities were severely hampered by the actions of Gestapo agent Stanisław Dembowicz, codenamed "Radom," and the large-scale arrests the Germans carried out in October 1942. This decision may have been influenced by the need to prepare and execute a consolidation operation with the Home Army organization in the Oświęcim area, and the establishment of a single partisan unit was intended to standardize and streamline the entire process. Moreover, in 1943, a nationwide trend can be observed to reorganize fragmented units into larger units. The unit adopted the codename "Sosienki" from a pine thicket in Bielany near the Soła River, where newly recruited partisans took their oath. Wawrzyczek, who had previously commanded a sabotage group codenamed "Marusza" in Jawiszowice-Łęki, took command of the "Sosienki" unit, and Jan Jamróz, codename "Maczuga," was then promoted to sergeant, as his deputy. He had previously commanded a similar group in Bielany. Since the third group operating in Bielany-Kańczuga suffered the greatest losses in the October arrests, including its commander, Captain Jan Barcik "Soła," who was subsequently executed in Auschwitz, their members were subordinated to Jamroz's orders. These decisions were followed by real actions aimed at creating robust command structures, communications, intelligence and counterintelligence, quartermaster units, and dedicated units responsible for organizing assistance for Auschwitz prisoners, clothing and civilian documents, medical support, and weapons supplies for the unit.
