This fictionalized documentary directed by Mirosław Krzyszkowski and Bogdan Wasztyl tells the story of Edward Padkowski, who, as a student, was a soldier in the Academic Legion and took part in the defensive war near the city of Włodzimierz. After the Red Army invaded Poland, the 9th Infantry Regiment, in which Padkowski served, crossed over to the Lublin region. In a battle with the Germans near the village of Zwola, Padkowski was seriously wounded and taken to a field hospital in Zamość. When, after the capture of the city, the Soviets began to deport all Polish soldiers able to move eastward, Padkowski escaped from the hospital. Meanwhile, his father, driven out by Ukrainians from the village of Bohorodytsia, found refuge in Hrubieszów. Edward Padkowski also ended up there. He immediately joined the clandestine National Military Organization, a military organization of the National Party, later incorporated into the Home Army under General Sikorski's orders. In May 1941, a setback occurred. Padkowski, along with several colleagues from NOW, was arrested for distributing the weekly "Walka" and imprisoned by the Gestapo in Hrubieszów. After a brutal interrogation, he was transported to the prison at Lublin Castle. On May 25, 1941, he was deported to Auschwitz concentration camp, where he was assigned the prison number 16366. A member of the camp underground, he escaped from Auschwitz in 1944. The film won the First Prize in the "Historical Documentary" category at the 32nd International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival KSF Niepokalana 2017 and a special mention at the Zamość Film Festival "Meetings with History."
