The reactivation of the Kalisat–Bondowoso–Panarukan railway line has finally moved into serious operation. The Surabaya Class I Railway Engineering Center has completed the Design Identification Survey (SID) as the initial foundation for reopening the inactive railway line, which has been closed since 2004. This historic line, a legacy of the 1897 Staatsspoorwegen, is being revived due to the high interest in rail transportation among the residents of Jember, Bondowoso, and Situbondo. However, significant challenges also lie ahead: repurposed stations, old bridges, and the line now adjoining residential areas. Will this legendary line truly be revived?
