Today we'll embark on an unusual journey through the past, exploring an abandoned railway line that once connected Zelenogorsk with the village of Reshetnikovo. This line has a rich history, dating back to the pre-war years. Initially, it served to transport raw materials from the quarry on Pukhtolova Gora to the main highway linking Vyborg and Leningrad. During the Soviet era, the railway was further developed. It was extended to Industrial Products Combine No. 307, known as Reinforced Concrete Plant No. 5. Branch lines were also added to other important facilities, including the Avtomatika plant. This plant, a subsidiary of Krasny Oktyabr, had a very specific purpose: it stored and tested a rocket component—unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine, known as heptyl. Later, the testing focus shifted to helicopter components. In the 1990s, the plant even produced Riga-13 mopeds and table salt shakers, a clear demonstration of the changes brought by perestroika. Ultimately, the railway line to Avtomatika was dismantled. Before the ZhBI plant, the railway continued to exist for some time, but train service there, too, eventually ceased. The last memories of this line's life are associated with cinema. Scenes for the TV series "Major" were filmed at one of the crossings, in which a diesel locomotive repeatedly collided with a car. Boris Grebenshchikov* also filmed his music video "Train on Fire" here, in which the band members used a historic steam locomotive from the Shushary museum to express their feelings about the Soviet system. Our exploration began at a branch line after a dead-end road leading into the forest. The scene that greeted us was impressive: the rails, immersed in greenery, created a powerful, almost mystical landscape. After walking through this overgrown section, we found ourselves at the gates of a company that hasn't used this line for a long time. Walking along the fence and passing a stream, we reached the railroad tracks again. The track was already rolling, indicating that this section was still in use. Further on, we passed crossings, abandoned switches, and, of course, picturesque views. This was our journey today along the forgotten rails of history.
