Green hydrogen is still too expensive – Evonik is working to change that. A pilot plant for the newly developed DURAION® membrane has now been commissioned in Marl. The membrane is the core component of AEM electrolysis, which can produce green hydrogen more efficiently, flexibly, and cost-effectively than established processes. The facility already manufactures the membrane at commercial scale, enough for electrolysis capacities of up to 2.5 gigawatts per year.
