BREAKING NEWS! Massive flooding struck North Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra, on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Heavy rainfall triggered the overflow of the Rawas, Rupit, Lilir, and Dapo rivers, inundating two sub-districts in Muratara. The 2026 Muratara flood completely paralyzed the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Macang Village, Karang Jaya District. Strong currents submerged the road and shoulders of the Trans-Sumatra Highway. The Tanjung Beringin Village Bridge was completely destroyed. The Sukamenang Bridge was also again cut off due to the massive Muratara flooding. Sukamenang and Muara Batang Empu Villages were severely affected. Residents began self-evacuating. The Muratara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) deployed a joint search and rescue (SAR) team. This South Sumatra flood disaster resulted in one fatality. Beware! Rainfall remains high. Residents along the banks of the Rupit and Rawas rivers have been asked to evacuate.
