The Evolution of Japanese Lanterns - Buddhist Temples to Home Gardens

🎋Join Our Quiet Community- Shizen Circle: https://www.shizenstyle.com/membership In Japan you can see a number of different styles of lanterns, so today I wanted to show you some of the more common ones, especially ones that you’ll see and use in Japanese garden design. Toro, or lanterns in general, were originally used in Buddhist temples to light the pathways on the temple grounds. However, in the Heian period (794–1185) Shinto shrines and home gardens started to use them so they slowly began to lose their religious affiliation. There are 5 main types of stone lanterns that you will see in the Japanese garden, but there are actually dozens of sub-categories as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ◦My Fine Art Photography and Shakuhachi: https://www.gen-setsu.com/ ◦Photography Newsletter: https://www.gen-setsu.com/newsletter-... ◦ Visit Shizen Style for learning resources like E-books, my blog, newsletter, shopping etc.: https://www.shizenstyle.com ◦ Gear I use: ▹https://www.shizenstyle.com/my-gear ◦ COME SAY HI: ▹ Instagram:   / gensetsu_art   ▹ Facebook:   / gensetsu.art   ▹ Website: https://shizenstyle.com/ Some of those links are affiliate links (Amazon etc.), it doesn't cost you more and it helps me to continue this channel thanks to a small commission I receive.
